Human Factors
Aviation physiology and psychology, pilot and operating environment, pilot-equipment relationship and interpersonal relations.
The syllabus is not the same for every certification. Here is what each level expects of you in this area.
Basic
For basic certification
5 topics- Aviation physiology: vision and scanning, hearing, orientation and disorientation, body rhythms and jet lag, sleep and fatigue, anaesthetics
- The pilot and the operating environment: medications, alcohol and drugs, heat and cold, noise, toxic hazards (CO)
- Aviation psychology: decision-making, situational awareness, stress, risk management, attitudes, workload and attention
- Pilot-equipment relationship: controls and displays, SOPs, checklists, automation and complacency
- Interpersonal relations: communications, operating pressures (family and peers, employer)
Advanced
What advanced certification adds
Same as basicNothing more. This area is required identically at both levels: what you learn for basic carries over to advanced unchanged.
Mock exams mix all eight areas, just like the real exam.
