Flight Operations
General operations, performance, weight and balance, surface contamination, RPAS operation in VLOS (and EVLOS/sheltered), occupational safety and health.
The syllabus is not the same for every certification. Here is what each level expects of you in this area.
Basic
For basic certification
7 topics- General: PIC responsibilities, defects, winter ops, thunderstorm avoidance, wildlife hazards, collision avoidance (lights), radio and electronic interference
- Performance: density altitude and humidity, bank and speed vs turn rate and radius, flight manual, hover ceiling
- Performance charts and data: launcher factors, crosswind, battery, wind and climb power, max altitude
- Weight and balance: CG range, weights (empty and gross), external loads
- Critical surface contamination: effects on performance, types of contaminants
- RPAS operations (VLOS): authorizations, public safety coordination, charging areas, site control, launch and recovery points, obstacles, emergency procedures, roles, communications, post-flight
- Occupational safety and health: charging areas, launch and recovery points, obstacles, emergency procedures, responsibilities, communications, post-flight
Advanced
What advanced certification adds
3 topics- General: runway numbering, aerodrome operations (incursion and conflict prevention)
- RPAS operations (Extended VLOS or EVLOS): conditions, max pilot-to-VO range, proximity to people, appropriate RPA types
- RPAS operations (Sheltered): conditions, max range from pilot, proximity to people, C2 and lost-link
Mock exams mix all eight areas, just like the real exam.
